The Third Annual Transecting Society Conference (TSC)
Affirming Trans* Lives, Advancing Trans* Politics
April 11-12, 2014
University of New Hampshire, Durham
TSC is a two-day symposium dedicated to exploring controversial political issues that impact trans* lives locally and globally.
The term trans*, like all terms, is limited in its capacity to name our differences. However, with the phrase trans* lives, we intend to be inclusive of the lives of all transsexuals, cross- dressers, genderqueers, and other gender-nonconforming people. Moreover, we endeavor to recognize the particularity of each trans* life as it is shaped by the intersection of axes such as gender assignment at birth, gender identity, gender expression, medical history, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, geography, class, sexuality, physical ability, mental ability, body size, and age.
In this symposium, we endeavor to cultivate a supportive and egalitarian space in which to build community, educate each other, and mobilize activism. We welcome artists, performers, activists, lawyers, social workers, policymakers, non-profit workers, undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, independent scholars, writers, and all others who are interested in affirming trans* lives and advancing trans* civil rights, human rights, and collective liberation.
